Duties
Performance Measurements and Targets
- Define, develop and lead the implementation of production schedules, plans, actions, process improvements and measurements to produce the highest quality of product possible with a target of zero defects, to meet agreed customer deliverables and departmental goals on time aligned to company objectives and within the allocated budget
- Plan, organise, co-ordinate and control all logistics, supply and production activities and the effective use of manpower, material and equipment in accordance with the existing workload, orders, production flow, stock, parts, shipping dates and sales forecasts to meet current and future manufacturing demands
- Set and effectively manage key production and delivery targets and deliverables, as well as manage staffing and overtime levels, establish appropriate measurements in order to meet customer commitments
- Together with the Quality Manager, audit the production and manufacturing facilities to ensure compliance with the company’s ISO 9001 certification standards, maintain plans in compliance with corporate quality requirements and close out all findings and non-conformances within agreed timelines
People and Culture
- Set and maintain an appropriate production organisational structure and assign responsibilities; delegate authority; recruit, select, orient and train employees and carry out performance evaluation, promotion, retention and termination activities in consultation with the Directors
- Performance manage direct reports and staff by defining and regularly communicating performance expectations and coach and counsel them in the performance of their job responsibilities using appropriate management tools
- Set clear work standards, guidelines and performance parameters for planning and monitoring purposes for all direct reports
Costs
- Apply rigorous budget control to ensure that the daily, weekly and monthly application of resources reflects the highest levels of production productivity and investigate and immediately initiate corrective actions where production budget goals are not being met
- Meet the production planning schedule whilst constantly assessing improved methods to reduce costs while continuing to deliver quality products on time, whilst highlighting any variances, shortages, production issues, inventory or stockouts and backorders with weekly follow ups and tracking delivery schedules
- Implement and maintain the company’s Omni stock control system to accurately record the inventory of finished goods and raw materials in accordance with strict cost controls
General Duties and Functions
- Work collaboratively and co-operating with the company Directors as well as other members of the management team and other departments including Research and Development, Sales and Marketing, Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO), Human Resources and Finance to ensure customer expectations are met
- Demonstrate a strong leadership focus and personal commitment to occupational health, safety and environment policies and to fully comply with all health and safety and environmental legislation
- Adhere to company policies and procedures at all times and ensure that ethical codes and practices are adhered to in all business conducted on the company’s behalf
- Perform all other duties and special projects as will be assigned, from time to time, by the Directors
- Ensure that all company documentation is completed in full and submitted to executive management in a timeous manner
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Production or Aviation Engineering or related field or equivalent from an accredited institution. The equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- A Government Certificate of Competency applicable to Factories will be an advantage
- Minimum of 10 years demonstrated leadership and organisational skills and experience in an aviation production or manufacturing environment using Lean/Six Sigma methodology or similar including work planning, scheduling, task/job assignment, quality procedures and budgetary control
- Possess computer proficiency in an MRP system as well as a thorough knowledge and demonstrated expertise in MS Office software packages such as; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Access and MS Project as well as other databases sufficient to perform the job, duties, and tasks associated with the position
Benefits
- Basic salary of R60 000 to R80 000 p/m depending on experience
