Department Manager – Electrics

Basic requirements, electrical design, develop, and testing of electrical devices and systems and equipment, including communications systems, power, servo motors and navigation systems, electrical systems for avionics and general aircraft electrical and communication wiring. Also oversee the manufacturing of these devices, panels, systems and equipment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Electronic Systems, Electronics Troubleshooting, Electronic Testing Design, Project Management, Quality Focus, Database Design and Analysing Information
  • Reporting Research Results, Attention to Detail, Emphasizing Excellence, Innovation
  • Designing, maintaining, implementing, or improving electrical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems for aviation purposes
  • Performing a wide range of electrical engineering tasks by operating computer-assisted design or engineering software and equipment
  • Conferring with internal and external customers, engineers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering products or projects
  • Ensuring that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements by preparing electrical systems specifications, technical drawings or topographical maps
  • Establishing construction, manufacturing or installation standards or specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations
  • Ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by directing or coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support or testing activities
  • Writing reports and compiling data regarding existing and potential electrical engineering projects and studies for continuous improvement
  • Preparing specifications for purchases of electrical equipment and materials
  • Supervising or training project team and electrical members
  • Estimating material, labour, or construction costs for budget preparation
  • Maintaining electrical equipment
  • Working with a variety of technicians
  • Design test rig for avionics panels
  • Consult on best practice
  • Evaluates electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of electricity and materials
  • Confirms system’s and components’ capabilities by designing testing methods; testing properties
  • Develops electrical products by studying customer requirements; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials
  • Develops manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for building and assembling electrical components; soliciting observations from operators
  • Assures product quality by designing electrical testing methods; testing finished products and system capabilities
  • Prepares product reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising information and trends
  • Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests
  • Keep equipment operational by following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures; requesting repair service
  • Completes projects by training and guiding technicians
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Requirements

  • Knowledge of applicable codes related to electronic engineering in the avionics environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering would be advantageous
  • Licensed as a professional engineer with ECSA would be advantageous
  • Experience in using or a desire to learn required software

Remuneration

The company is offering a salary of R20 000 to R35 000 per month depending on qualifications and experience.
