Technical Buyer

A company based in Midrand is looking for a Technical Buyer, experienced in Aviation parts procurement, to join their team. The Technical Buyer is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and negotiating with suppliers for the procurement of cost effective and timely delivery of electronic, mechanical and electrical equipment, materials, parts and services, and works closely with Engineering and Manufacturing to ensure the defined technical requirements are met. The Technical Buyer is also responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, pricing terms, and identifying opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct procurement activities including sourcing, evaluation, negotiation, and selection of suppliers for electronic, mechanical and electrical equipment, materials, parts and services
• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure optimum pricing, quality, and delivery requirements
• Review and analyse Requests for Purchase Orders, identifying specifications, quantity and delivery requirements
• Monitor and evaluate supplier performance, ensuring compliance with established contracts, delivery schedules, and quality standards
• Resolve supplier-related issues such as technical queries through collaboration with Engineering and Manufacturing departments, deliverable documents and quality disputes, shipment delays, and invoice discrepancies
• Continuously seek opportunities for cost savings and process improvements through supplier negotiation and collaboration
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to forecast technical equipment, materials, and service requirements
• Coordinate with internal departments to ensure timely and accurate delivery of purchased items
• Track and expedite orders to ensure on-time delivery and resolve any delays or issues
• Provide timely feedback on possible delivery delays and attend internal meetings as required
• Ensure all purchasing activities adhere to company policies, business principles, and applicable legislation
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date procurement records, purchase orders, contracts, and related documentation
• Assist in the development and implementation of purchasing policies and procedures

Minimum Requirements

• South African Citizen
• Grade 12 / Matric Certificate
• A Diploma or Advanced Certificate (NQF Level 6) in Purchasing/Supply Chain Management is mandatory
• 5-10 Years of electronic, mechanical and electrical buying experience in the aviation or defence industry
• Strong knowledge of business principles, policies, and legislation related to purchasing
• Proficiency in procurement ERP software and Microsoft Office Suite

Skills and Attributes

• Comprehensive knowledge of procurement /supply chain management principles and regulations, sourcing strategies, supplier evaluation methods, and contract negotiation tactics
• Knowledge of the aerospace industry specifically trends in material development, pricing fluctuations, and supplier capabilities
• Strong negotiation skills to secure favourable contracts with suppliers in terms of price, delivery schedules and quality requirements
• Excellent communication skills to build rapport with suppliers and internal stakeholders
• Proficiency in analysing pricing trends, and supplier performance metrics
• Attentive to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines
• Meticulous approach to all material specifications and quality standards to be met
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues in the procurement process
• Good team player, ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, manufacturing teams and other stakeholders to ensure smooth procurement and material integration
